On a wet and miserable Sunday morning, thanks to the new synthetic at Blackman oval we got to play, and play we did. The boys all did a great job again this weekend. I was particularly proud to see the team work across the ground on Sunday, we had people calling, passing and sharing the ball around. Again we saw the players that played last year continue to lead from the front, but we also had a number of the newer players step into the play and play some good footy. Well done to all.
One of the things we are trying to teach at the club is respect, there have been no incidents to bring this on, but I would like the parents to know that we are talking to the kids about respect on and off the field. We want the kids to respect the umpires, the opposition, their team mates, their coaches, but above all respect themselves. At the end of the day they are the only ones who can judge whether they committed 100% on the day, whether they tried their hardest and we believe that being honest to yourself and respecting yourself is extremely important. It would be great if you could have a discussion with them as well about this.
Well done to all on another great weekend of footy, let’s hope the sun shines on us next weekend, we are at Gore Hill Oval at 10:45am. Also as a heads up and reminder on Friday the 8th of May we are playing at 6:30pm at Blackman – this is our first night game, very exciting for all involved.
Well, what a game it was. Our first full compliment for the year and again a great result for the Lane Cove Cats. While we don’t officially register game scores, it was an impressive performance, and of note is that over the last 2 games we have only conceded 1 point.
Team Hawkins has a BYE next week.
However, our U11’s team, Team Taylor are keen to pay handsomely to have the U10’s add numbers and fuel to their fire at their game next week.
So, if you can assist Team Taylor (they are after 6 players from Team Hawkins), then please let Daniel / Jeremy or myself know.
This week Taylor fronted up against Forest Lions for the second week in a row. After getting touched up by the Lions the previous week, the boys could easily of gone into the game a little apprehensive.
However they came out fired up and never let the Lions get to far ahead. In fact a great third quarter saw them hit the front and then headed into the last quarter all square.
It wasn’t until deep into the last quarter that Forest sneaked in a goal and hit the front. In the end, a heart breaking loss. But to turnaround a 60 point loss to nearly winning a week later was a magnificent effort.
Just shows what these boys can do when they put their mind to it and give a huge effort.
Next up is the Mosman Swans.
