Under 9

Team Selwood

Once again we had another great weekend down at Blackman. It was great to see despite the weather we still got to play at our home ground. The boys had another great weekend taking on Willoughby, the tackling was tough and the teamwork once again was a highlight of the game. With some help from Ben Williams, the boys had a great day. A number of the younger players really stepped up this week, overcoming the initial shock of the aggressiveness of the U9s, Harry, Nicki and Mac all had their best games of the season and worked hard all day.

Remember this week we are playing Friday night at 6:30pm at Blackman, please be there by about 6pm. Also we will be having pies for sale at the ground and some drinks, so we can make a real footy night of it.

Under 10/11

Team Taylor

With Hawkins U10 having a bye, some of the boys joined their older team mates to take on the Mosman Swans U11 team this weekend.

In what could only described as a game of two halves, the Swans came out firing and caught the Cats napping. With some fast ball movement, Mosman piled on the goals, keeping us to a solidarity point and leading by 20 at half time. Time and again we were left looking flat footed and out of position as the Swans played free flowing footy.

After some reshuffling of positions at half time, the Cats entered the second half with a different look. However, at its heart AFL is a simple game and its was a big increase in effort that sparked a dramatic shift in play. Suddenly the boys looked like they wanted the ball. The defence suddenly looked un-penetrable. We also peppered the goals in the third quarter, although accuracy deserted us, ending the term with 1 goal and 6 points. However the came home with a wet sail, slamming on three goals and drawing even with the Swans with only minutes to spare. Despite some desperate play, we couldn’t get the extra point required and the game ended a draw.

The effort shown by the boys in the second half was superb. The challenge will be to keep that level over an entire game.

This week we play the top-of-the-ladder Pittwater Tigers under lights at Blackman Park. If we come with our A game, we should give them a real run for their money.
