Junior Match Reports Round 9

Written by Daniel Hynes

9 June 2016

We had some sad and frustrated players after this weekend’s washout.

For non-competition grades (U10 and below), it isn’t all about winning. All participants, including the dedicated parents and volunteers should be having fun. Therefore, despite having three teams playing on our all-weather synthetic oval, we decided to abandon them after players from all clubs started pulling out.

The Under 11 team was scheduled to play on Blackman #4, but that oval was closed on Friday night for the entire weekend. The U12 team was scheduled to play on the synthetic, so were still keen to battle on. However, the opposition was not as willing, and so the game cancelled.

The synthetic oval handled the volume of rain without a hiccup. Despite over 200mm falling on it over the weekend, there wasn’t a sign of water on the surface. Even the wind was absent, with the area protected by the surrounding forest. Good news for any future weekends inflicted with bad weather.

The AFL ended up cancelling the round and has asked us to reschedule the games on or before 3 July.

As this stage we have several options available to us, including utilising the wet weather round on 3 July. Once we have confirmed with the opposition, we will notify everyone of the new times for the rescheduled matches.
