U10 Hawkins had their final hurrah on Sunday with gala day. Their first game was against Willoughby Wildcats, and with a school friend on the opposition, this was seen as the most important game of the day for a number of players. After a slow start where Wildcats scored in the first couple of minutes, we regrouped and after 2 great goals, one each to James and Mac (surely the longest goal of the season) and a behind to Alex, we ran out winners 13 vs 6.

After a 1 game break, we took on the second Wildcats team, and in a very close game, we went down 2 vs 6, with a behind to Cooper and Daniel.

In our third game against St Ives, we stepped up a gear again and ran out winners, 12 vs 1, with goals to Lachlan and Sam. Our final game was against the Manly Bombers. The guys played their heart out, but went down 0 vs 9. Finishing the day with 2 wins and 2 losses.

The team played some of their best football of the season, including some great runs and tackles by Charles, a couple of standout marks from Will, one of the marks of the season by Jarrod, and one by Angus which was just as good. Max’s hunger for the ball was as strong as ever and he was unlucky on a few occasions to miss out on scoring a goal. James kicked a great goal and almost managed to hit his dad as the goal umpire, and Mac’s goal, which I am sure was the longest of the season was great to see. Sam, Cooper, Alex, Jaeden and Daniel all had great games and were all as busy around the ball as we have seen during the season, and Lachie and Darcy both played great games and didn’t let the opposition get away from any tackles.

A special thanks goes to our fill in coach, Greg Hawtin, who kept the troops motivated and gave great direction on the field.

A big thanks to everyone for a great season, I hope everyone had an enjoyable season, and hopefully we will see you all back again next year.

A committed and focused Lane Cove U12 cruised past the Forest Lions and enters the 2016 final series in top form and full of confidence. It was also a fitting celebration for two of our stalwarts of the club; Patrick Byrne and Alex Strassberg who played their 50th games for the club.

On a beautiful night for footy, the boys started strongly and never let the opposition get comfortable. They tackled ferociously and repelled nearly every attacking move by the Lions. Although the ball was stuck in our forward half for extended periods of time, we were wasteful with our opportunities and entered the half-time break with 6 goals from 18 scoring shots. However, some great team play saw our rovers such as Ben Cheshire finally find some space and slot some goals. That dominance continued into the second half, with the game starting to open up as we applied scoreboard pressure.

Around the ground we had plenty of winners; Cook and Ballhausen played a great game on the wings, while Russell and Sidhu were like a brick wall across the half-back. Seemingly inspired by the presence of his family and mates, Fish had the best game of the season, winning plenty of ball through the midfield.

The night also saw some new recruits join the team. While Jack Cooper, Gus Ashworth and Declan Mackey have played AFL before, they slotted into the team like a good fitting glove. Unfortunately they are not eligible to play in the final series with us, but we hope they had enough fun to entice them back  in 2017 on a permanent basis.

We also took the opportunity of the last regular season game on a Friday night game to celebrate the season with some pies. We are lucky to have a great bunch of families. It actually felt like well established junior club, where its not just about the game but a gathering of people who love footy.
