Match Report Round 7 – U8 Cockatoo Sunday 27th May

We returned to Blackman Park last Sunday to once again take on the boys and girls from Hornsby Berowra. It was a great match, with both teams having the momentum at various times. It was really good to see our players looking for each other when in possession, whether passing by hand or by foot.
What was really impressive was the effort put in by all our players to get their hands on the ball, particularly when it hit the ground. Our captain, Ysabella, led by example, especially when playing in defence. She was often first to the ball and made good use of it with great passes into the midfield. In only his second game Jude showed his talent, and his ability to kick the ball a long way. He showed great improvement in the space of a week, and earned his award for best effort on the day!
Once again Scarlett was a force around the ball. She fell agonisingly close to kicking our first goal with the ball being stopped on the goal line, and continued to rack up possessions throughout the game. Jerry continued to show his speed and skilful ball use, kicking multiple goals.  Xavier also contributed to the scoreline kicking a gaol from long range, and making an impact around the ground. He was missed last week!
Talking of goals, Angus joined our team for the day and peppered the big sticks with goal after goal. Not surprisingly with that effort he won the award for best goal.
Aza and Oscar continue to impress, working really well together to gather the ball, and using the hand pass to get the ball to the free player. Ryan’s hands were dependable as ever, taking a couple of great marks, and used the ball really well. Our youngest player, Max, continues to improve, and get himself involved. As a coach I do need to ensure that Max gets more of the ball, which will be a priority next week.
Finally a big thank you to to the kids from Hornsby-Berowra, some of whom who joined our team for a third to even up the numbers. It was a game played in really good spirits with players from both teams showcasing their talent and enthusiasm.
I’m loving being the coach of this squad. Their joy in playing the game is infectious, and long may it continue.
For our next game this Sunday 3 June, we are back at Acron Oval to face the mighty Saints (St Ives that is). Kick off is at 8am so can we please all be at the ground by 7:40 am for a warm up and team talk. Please let me know if you can’t make it.
Gavin Family please bring oranges etc. Mr Waxman it is your turn the following week. Team captain this week will be Scarlett. I’m sure she will do a great job assisting the coaches in making sure everyone is working hard!!
Best wishes,
